【摘要】:1.1Thistestmethodcoversareproducibleprocedurefortestingprocessesusedtosterilizereusablemedicaldevices(instruments).Thistestmethodisnotdesignedtovalidateasterilizationprocess,buttestsanestablishedsterilizationcycleorprocess.Itisapracticaltestoftheeffectivenessofasterilizationprocessappliedtoreusablemedicaldevices.Bacterialsporesmoreresistanttotheteststerilantthanthenaturalbioburdenoftheinstrumentareusedasthetestorganisms.Commerciallyavailableliquidsuspensionsofbacterialsporesareusedtoinoculatetheinstruments.1.2Thistestmethodisintendedforreusablemedicaldevicescleanedinaccordancewiththedevicemanufacturer''sinstructionsandpreparedforsterilizationinaccordancewiththeinstructionsforthesterilizationprocessbeingused.1.3Thistestmethodassumesthatcleaned,reusablemedicaldeviceswillbefreeofvisiblesoilbutmayhaveremainingadherentbioburden.Aworst-casebioburdencanberepresentedbysuspensionsofbacterialendospores,whicharecommerciallyavailableformonitoringchemicalorphysicalsterilizationprocesses.Theseendosporesshouldhaveaverifiableresistance(Dvalue)tothespecificprocessandsterilantbeingevaluated.1.4Itisimpracticaltotestforthesterilityofsomedevicesbyimmersioningrowthmediumbecauseoftheircomplexity,size,andavailability(forlong-termincubation)oradverseeffectsonthedevicesfromlong-termimmersion.Therefore,elution,rinsing,orswabbingtechniquesareusedtorecovertestorganismsfrominoculateddevices.1.5Arecoverycontrolwillbeincludedbyinoculationofatestdeviceanduseoftheelutionmethodswithoutapplyingthesterilizationprocessbeingtested.Aminimalrecoveryof106colony-formingunit(CFU)/mLperdeviceisrequiredfortherecoverycontrol.1.6Resultsoftherecoverycontrolandprocesstestcyclearecomparedtodeterminetheeffectivenessofthesterilizationprocess.1.7Resultsoftherecoverycontrolandappliedinoculumarecomparedtodeterminetherecoveryefficiency,ifdesired.1.8Theprocedureshouldrevealthattesteddevicesarefreeofrecoverablemicroorganismswhenfiveormoreconsecutivetestsareconducted.1.9Aknowledgeofmicrobiologicaltechniquesisrequiredtoconducttheseprocedures.1.10ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
